Shinerama

Shinerama is Canada’s largest college and university fundraiser for cystic fibrosis research and treatment. Each September over 25,000 students fundraise at over 60 campuses across Canada. Cystic Fibrosis is a fatal inherited disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of 1 in every 25,000 children. In 1960, a patient with cystic fibrosis rarely lived past the age of 4. Cystic Fibrosis patients now have a 50% chance of living into their mid 30’s. Shinerama began at Laurier in 1961 and this year will be Laurier’s 48th year participating in the campaign. Since 1978, Laurier’s campaign has grossed over $1.5 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis including $177,000 raised in 2003 – a Shinerama campaign record.
