The Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union is one of the most powerful student organizations in Canada. This student-owned and operated not-for-profit organization serves as the official voice for all undergraduate students at Laurier and works to provide for the needs of students in a variety of different ways.
First and foremost as the chief voice of undergraduate students, WLUSU’s elected student representatives work to strengthen and improve services offered to students on campus and within the community, and to voice student issues and concerns to the university community.
In addition to its political responsibilities WLUSU also operates seven different business operations that employ over 300 students as part-time staff. These business operations contribute a substantial amount of revenue to WLUSU’s overall budget, which totals approximately $9 million.
Finally, each year WLUSU receives an overwhelming demand from Laurier students to get involved. WLUSU provides over 1,500 different volunteer activities in the areas of Administration, Clubs & Activities, Public Affairs, Services, University Affairs, and the Board of Directors. It is in these departments that WLUSU strives to develop student leadership on campus and fulfill its vision of a ‘positive experience for every student.’
