Emergency Response Team

In an effort to increase student safety at campus events and intramural activities, WLUSU introduced the Emergency Response Team (ERT) in 1994. This team is comprised of volunteers certified at the Red Cross First Responder level whose mission is to assist the Laurier community whenever first aid is required.  First Responder training enables ERT volunteers to be trained in advanced and extensive first aid skills, including the use of oxygen for those patients in need.

These volunteers are dressed in red jackets and staff any and all major campus events including: Orientation Week, IRC Formal, Intramurals, ACERT and varsity athletic games.

ERT also provides the Laurier Community with Standard First Aid Courses and Recertifications. ERT Operates daily from 3:00pm to 3:00am from September to April. In addition to their regular hours, ERT also runs 24-hour weekend service, beginning at 3:00 pm on Friday afternoon and extending until 3:00 am on Sunday night.ERT works alongside FOOT Patrol, Special Constable Services and other organizations to ensure the safety of the Laurier Community. You can reach ERT through Special Constable Services at 519-885-3333.

ERT is also available every night of the week to ensure the safety of all students by patrolling Wilf’s and the Turret, WLUSU’s bar operations. In addition to promoting a safe campus, ERT also provides first aid certification in Life Saving Society courses for volunteers or any students wishing to be certified.

In 2001, ERT was recognized at the National ACERT conference as the Team of the Year.

In 2006, ERT added Oxygen Administration and Automated External Defibrillation to their services and standardized hours from 6:30pm-2:45am

In 2007, ERT transitioned to a Red Cross First Responder Level of Care and extended their hours of operation to encompass 3:00pm-3:00am.

You can find ERT’s office at 232 King Street, or contact them at 885-3333.
