Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a list of some questions you may have regarding Peer Help Line.

Question:

What is the difference between internal and external boosters?

Answer:

Internal boosters remain confidential and anonymous. They answer your phone call when you reach us at 519-884-PEER OR 1-866-281-PEER. While the internal boosters status on the service is unknown, the external boosters promote the line and are seen as the face of PHL. They are the volunteers you see around campus. Each of them promotes the line and run campaigns raising awareness on various issues.

Question:

Do the volunteers who we see on campus also answer the phones?

Answer:

No they do not. Our internal and external boosters do not know each other. While each side plays a vital role in the success of PHL, their roles are completely different. Our internal boosters remain anonymous, which means you will not meet them until their time spent on the service comes to an end. Our external boosters on the other hand, remain known to the Laurier community and act as a key promotional tool for PHL. Although the internal and external boosters never meet, each side is extremely important to PHL.

Question:

What can I call into the line about?

Answer:

You can call into the line about ANYTHING! Peer Help Line is an information, listening and referral service. We can give you the number or hours to anything on and off campus, we can provide you with referrals to various resources you may need, or act as a listening ear if you want someone to talk to. We also provide students with a toll free number, which can come in handy if you require information but do not have access to a telephone. Each call is as important as the next! Please do not hesitate to call on us; we would love to hear from you.
