Recycling at Laurier

From our 2008 audit we learned that our campus diversion rate was 42%. Diversion refers to the percentage of waste that can be disposed of using methods other than the landfill. Using various recycling streams (paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, cans, e-waste, organics, etc) we can divert tonnes of waste away from the landfill and back into usable products.

Of all the waste that was measured:

23% of the waste collected and destined for the landfill was organic waste.

15% of the waste collected and destined for the landfill were bottles, cans and other recyclable containers.

13% of the waste collected and destined for the landfill was paper.

Please familiarize yourself with the sorting streams on campus. We depend on each individual to use the waste receptacles and multisort stations correctly.
